Hattie’s story.

As a child she was diagnosed with a mental disability. This disability created great limitations in the way she thought, or in her communication.  She grew up with a disability that did not help her take care of herself or be part of the community. The challenge was worse because of the way she was treated at home. She found herself to be the happiest when away from school. A social worker noticed how Hattie was eating out of trash cans and did not have decent clothes to wear. He intervened and got her to stay in a group home in Fairfax. Hattie tells us her story of how she overcame her disability and made a difference to her life.
